  • Initial Visa: Typically valid for 90 days, although some consulates may issue it for up to 6 months.
  • Extensions: The visa can be extended within Thailand 30-45 days before its expiration, with the possibility of an extension for up to one year, based on meeting the financial requirements.

2. Thailand Non-Immigrant O-A (Long Stay) Visa

The Non-Immigrant O-A (Long Stay) Visa is designed for foreign nationals aged 50 or older who wish to stay in Thailand for an extended period. While similar to the Non-Immigrant O Visa, the O-A visa offers a longer initial validity period.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Age: 50 years or older.
  • Financial Requirements: Proof of income or savings is required. You must meet one of the following:
    • A bank balance of at least THB 800,000 in a bank account for 2 months prior to application. OR
    • A monthly income of at least THB 65,000. OR
    • A combination of both (bank account and income) totaling THB 800,000.
  • Health insurance must cover at least THB 40,000 for outpatient medical expenses and THB 400,000 inpatient medical expenses.
  • Medical certificate stating that the applicant has no contagious diseases.

Visa Validity:

  • Initial Visa: Valid for 1 year.
  • Extensions: The visa can be extended within Thailand 30-45 days before its expiry. Extensions are granted for up to 1 year at a time, provided the financial requirements are met.

3. Thailand Non-Immigrant O-X (Long Stay) Visa

The Non-Immigrant O-X visa is a special long-term visa for retirees aged 50 and older, allowing them to stay in Thailand for up to 10 years without the need for annual renewals. This visa is designed for individuals seeking long-term residency in Thailand. 

However, it is available only to applicants holding passports from the following countries: (1) Japan (2) Australia (3) Denmark (4) Finland (5) France (6) Germany (7) Italy (8) Netherlands (9) Norway (10) Sweden (11) Switzerland (12) United Kingdom (13) Canada (14) United States of America  

Basic Qualifications:

  • Age: 50 years or older.
  • Financial Requirements: Proof of income or savings is required. You must meet one of the following: 
    • A minimum of THB 3 million in a Thai bank account for the duration of the visa OR
    • Proof of an annual income of at least THB 1.2 million plus a deposit of THB 1.8 million in a Thai bank account.
  • Health insurance coverage must be valid in Thailand.

Visa Validity:

  • Initial Visa: Valid for 5 years, with the option to extend for another 5 years, allowing for a total stay of up to 10 years.
  • Extensions: After the initial 5 years, an extension can be granted for another 5 years.

  • Stay in Thailand for up to 10 years without frequent renewals.
