What is the LTR Visa?

The Thailand Long-Term Resident (LTR) Visa was introduced by the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) in September 2022. The program aims to attract high-net-worth foreign residents, talents, and technologies that will contribute to the country’s domestic spending and investment while supporting overall economic growth. The LTR Visa offers a range of tax and non-tax benefits, including a stay of up to 10 years in Thailand. Since its inception, more than 6,000 successful applications have been approved by BOI, making the country a more attractive regional hub for high-potential foreign residents.

 

Types of LTR Visa and Qualifications

  1. Wealthy Global Citizens
    • At least USD 1 million in global assets
    • Investment of at least USD 500,000 in Thailand
  1. Wealthy Pensioners
    • Applicants must be 50 years of age or older
    • Passive income of at least USD 80,000 per annum
    • If passive income is below USD 80,000 per annum but not less than USD 40,000, applicants must have an investment of at least USD 250,000 in Thailand
  1. Work-From-Thailand Professionals
    • Personal income of at least USD 80,000 per annum
    • If personal income is below USD 80,000 per annum but not less than USD 40,000, applicants must have a master’s degree or above, own intellectual property, or receive Series A funding
    • The company employing the applicant must be a publicly listed company or have a combined revenue of at least USD 50 million in the previous 3 years
  1. Highly-Skilled Professionals
    • Personal income of at least USD 80,000 per annum
    • If personal income is below USD 80,000 per annum but not less than USD 40,000, applicants must have a master’s degree or above in science and technology, or special expertise relevant to their job assignment in Thailand
  1. Dependents
    • Legal spouse of the LTR Visa holder
    • Parents of the LTR Visa holder
    • Children under the age of 20 of the LTR Visa holder

LTR visa applicants must have health insurance with at least USD 50,000 in coverage, social security benefits that cover treatment in Thailand, or a deposit of at least USD 100,000 for no less than 12 months for the main applicant (USD 25,000 for each dependent).
